ByteEd has a specialist education team ready to empower future generations with the knowledge and tools to unleash creativity. We are passionate educators, programmers and 3D modellers who strive to enable young people in the learning of how ao mariko content is made in Aotearoa and across the world.

ByteEd offers scaffolded learning programmes for all young learners based on a design thinking approach. We utilise our know-how to provide interactive and engaging learning opportunities through a “hands on” practical approach.

We assist learners to excel at school, aligning with the revised New Zealand Technology curriculum, with a particular focus on computational thinking (CT) and designing and developing digital outcomes (DDDO) technological areas, building skills and supporting students to move beyond being users of digital technologies to becoming innovative creators of digital solutions and outcomes.

Leading the way to discover novel technologies to empower education through research and development endeavours. A serial entrepreneur involved in multiple industries, started his first venture at the age of 19.

Sarah Washbrooke

Sarah is a passionate educator and has taught many ages, needs and cultures in different school environments as a Technology specialist for 24+ years. She promotes professional learning for teachers in STEM/Technology across NZ. Sarah is conversant with latest revisions in Technology and has gained excellence in Technology teaching awards.

Professor Carol Mutch

Curriculum

Carol is the Education Commissioner for UNESCO New Zealand. She has been a teacher, teacher educator, educational leader, policy advisor, researcher, writer and now a Professor at the University of Auckland. Vast knowledge and experience in both the national and international education communities.

Phil Redhead

Director of Education – Middle East and North Africa

Originally from the UK, Phil has worked in education for over twenty years, as a teacher, school senior leader, consultant and digital education transformation director and strategist. He was Head of Digital Learning for the GEMS Education group and has advised Ministries of Education in four countries across the Gulf region on hybrid and remote learning strategies and learning technologies. Phil has led and managed large, diverse, global teams tasked with digital transformation of schools within a range of complex environments, delivering customer-focused outcomes and high levels of impact and satisfaction. Most recently, Phil led Deloitte’s Education Technology practice in the Middle East and was Director of Strategy for the Future Gate project, implementing technology and innovative practices in public schools across Saudi Arabia.

Dr Nasser Giacaman

Artificial Intelligence Lead

Nasser is a Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering at the University of Auckland, where he is currently Director of Software Engineering as well as the Software Engineering Masters Advisor. Extremely passionate about teaching, he has won a number of teaching excellence awards and dedicates his research efforts towards digital educational engineering.

Thomas Male

VR Development Lead

Virtual Reality enthusiast and driven game programmer, who is also deeply passionate to bring industry knowledge directly to learners in schools, whether student or teacher. Graduated from Media Design School with a Bachelor’s in Software Engineering – Game Programming.

Thien Ly

3D Modeller and Animator

Discovered his passion for 3D modelling and animation at high school back in Sweden, continued his artistic pathway at Yoobee College graduated with a Bachelor’s of Animation. He has worked on a series of digital content projects to explore new techniques that can then be taught to learners.

Dr Kerry Lee

As a registered teacher, Kerry is passionate about supporting teachers and learners in Technology Education. She is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland, the chair of Technology Education New Zealand (TENZ), and on numerous national and international technology education councils.

Professor Robert Amor

Robert has spent over 30 years working on the application of computer science research in the architecture, engineering, and construction domains. Currently, a Professor at the University of Auckland and teaches Human Computer Interaction (HCI).

Associate Professor Vicente Gonzalez

Vicente is an Associate Professor in Lean Construction and Engineering Informatics at the University of Auckland. His research and passion is at the interface of civil engineering and computer science, knowledge generation is at the service of solving human and engineering problems. He is also the Chair of Lean Construction Australia and New Zealand.

Dr Zhenan Feng

Being passionate about VR, Zhenan has been researching VR for emergency training and studies since his PhD. With his mixed experience from the industry and academia, he has rich knowledge on digital technologies and applications.
